England – Premier League 2019-20, Watford vs Manchester United Match

Watford vs Manchester United
England – Premier League
Date: Sunday, 22 December 2019
Kick-off at 14:00 UK/ 15:00 CET
Venue: Vicarage Road (Watford).

The Premier League is about to embark on its busy festive schedule and this meeting is between two sides who need points – basement side Watford hosting a struggling Manchester United.

Watford are at the foot of the Premier League and have just one league win to their name this season – a victory at fellow strugglers Norwich.

The Hornets are now without a victory in five – in which they have collected just one point – and are now onto their third manager of the season, Nigel Pearson.

Manchester United’s recent form has improved – they are unbeaten in six league games and are up to sixth in the standings but remain inconsistent.

The Red Devils have secured impressive recent victories over Tottenham and Manchester City, but were frustrated at home to Everton last time out. But they should have enough to beat the floundering Hornets – 2-0.

Watford Team News, Updates and Facts

Watford Team News

Nigel Pearson will have been very encouraged by his side’s performance against Liverpool in defeat last weekend, so you can’t see a lot of changes being made by him here.  With that said, defenders Jose Holebas, Daryl Janmaat, and Sebastian Prodl, midfielders Tom Cleverley and Roberto Pereyra, and striker Danny Welbeck will miss out via injuries.

Watford Key Man

Under Pearson, it appears that Abdoulaye Doucoure will be pushed forward a little bit more. He looked sharp playing beneath Troy Deeney at Anfield, and you have to believe he will provide a stern, difficult challenge for United’s back line to have to deal with here.  One man that also let some chances go begging for the Hornets was Ismaila Sarr.  He’s shown a lot of promise, but he really spurned a great opportunity against the Reds and can’t afford to do it here.

Watford Team Form

Watford have four losses and a draw in their last five matches:

2-0 loss at Liverpool
0-0 home draw vs Crystal Palace
2-0 loss at Leicester
2-1 loss at Southampton
0-3 home loss vs Burnley

Watford Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-2-3-1

Watford likely XI

  • Goalkeeper:Foster
  • Defenders:Mariappa, Kabasele, Cathcart, Femenia
  • Defensive Midfielders:Capoue, Hughes
  • Attacking Midfielders:Sarr, Doucoure, Deulofeu
  • Forwards:Deeney

Manchester United Team News, Updates and Facts

Man Utd Team News

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be missing defenders Tim Fosu-Mensah, Diogo Dalot, Marcos Rojo, and Eric Bailly and midfielder Paul Pogba due to injury woes.  Pogba is closing in on a return, but he will be out here more than likely as fitness is sure to be an issue straight away for him.

Man Utd Key Man

Rather than rest the in-form Marcus Rashford on Wednesday night, the gaffer played his main man and it paid off.  He scored a goal to give them the lead and he quickly helped assist the third goal to put the League Two side out of their misery swiftly before being taken off the pitch.  Anthony Martial got that second goal, helping them to get back into form.  He’s got four goals and three assists in the PL alone, and that’s been largely due to injuries occurring.

Man Utd Team Form

Manchester United have four wins and a draw in their last five matches:
